First a little information on the product:
"The hydraSense® Nasal Aspirator and its filters were developed with pediatricians, and are brought to you by hydraSense® , the leading brand in saline solutions for the whole family. The hydraSense® Nasal Aspirator is a gentle and safe way to relieve your baby’s nasal congestion quickly and effectively. It helps to maintain clear breathing and to facilitate eating and sleeping. Its soft nasal tip is specifically designed for babies’ delicate noses and its transparent design allows for you to see the amount and type of mucus that is being removed. hydraSense® Nasal Aspirator has a protective single-use filter that traps excess mucus, providing hygienic aspiration. The tip and base of the aspirator are easily removable for effective cleaning after each use. Unlike squeezable nasal aspirators, the hydraSense® Nasal Aspirator allows you to control the strength of the suction with your aspiration. With all the scare in the media about the dangers of cold medicine, my family has fallen back on more simpler methods to help our children cope with their stuffy noses. We first started using saline solutions at the recommendation of our family doctor and have found it to work amazingly well. Much like the old salt and warm water method my grandmother used but with an easy to use sprayer. (I just to have to sniff salt water up out of a cup.. nasty).
For best results, and to liquefy mucus prior to aspiration, use hydraSense® Easydose® or hydraSense®Ultra-Gentle Mist with Comfort Tip, a nasal solution composed of isotonic, undiluted, sterile, 100% natural-source desalinated seawater. hydraSense® contains more than 70 trace elements and minerals naturally occurring in seawater and is preservative free."
The HydraSense® Nasal Aspirator is really quite cool. Not like those old rubber bulb like aspirators that I had to use on my daughter when she was a baby. Do you remember those? It took me ages to figure out how to work it and even when I did get it right (without blowing air up her nose) I couldn't tell whether I got anything out or not.
Not only is the hydraSense® Nasal Aspirator see through but you inhale through the mouthpiece to gently draw the mucus out which is collected into a hygienic filter chamber. It cannot pass through this chamber and comes with changeable filters. I really wish I had one of these when my children were little.
Sound a little weird? Check out this YouTube video for a demonstration.
While their product appears to be targeted more towards babies or younger children, I certainly had no qualms about using the sprayer on my six year old. She didn't balk at all at trying it and indeed they all quite liked getting their noses sprayed. I just tell them it eats up their boogers to make their nose feel better. (yeah I'm that kind of mom who talks about googers. ) A quick spray before bed definitely helped them to sleep better. What's more their solution also comes in handy small disposable doses that you can pop into your purse and take with you.
This product can be beneficial for more than just colds as it has been clinically proven to relieve excessive mucus accummulation in caused by allergies and upper respiratory symptoms and dryness due to dust or dry air.

Disclosure: I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central and received a Mom Central gift pack to thank me for taking the time to participate.
that is exactly what I use for my son when he is all stuffy and coming down with something. I generally use the saline spray, vicks vapor rub on the chest and a cold hair humidifier. The 3 combined usually does the trick for me. I have a doctor in the family and those are her recomendations. I hope everyone is feeling great this week.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, it is always great to hear how other moms deal with these things. My son is just healed up from an ear infection so we were here recently. I just became a follower of your blog - good stuff!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, I am a first time moms who needs all the help I could get, after all, experimenting is far off my list and I really consider other people's experiences in order to give the most to my child.
ReplyDeleteHope to see more these. This really is great!
We call those bulb thingys "nose suckers". I remember telling my husband, Go get me the nose sucker and he knew exactly what I meant!
